Benefit concert helps local resident
By Nicholas Brandon, Staff Writer J Dub’s in Riverview was the site for last week’s benefit concert (
January 5, 2003) for Scott Carlson, a Detroit resident suffering from terminal brain cancer.

Six bands made up the bill, including local based artists bugs Beddow band, Bobby Lewis and the Crackerjack Band and Hunter Brucks Band, as well as a reunion of Air Condo, a group that Carlson was once a member of.
"It worked out real well," said Paul Laginess, longtime friend of Carlson’s who participated in the Air Condo reunion. "The music was real good… the bands were uniformly excellent.
"Everybody was just fantastic."
But the true goal of the show was not to make great sounds, but to raise funds to help Carlson and his wife, Suzie, pay for his medical bills.
And this was achieved: with the help of those in attendance, Laginess and company raised $2,500 for the cause.
Carlson is currently under hospice care in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., but is fully aware and appreciative of what went on that night.
"Scott and Susie are just ecstatic with the help they got," said Laginess. "He was very happy.
"The ones who came were extremely generous."
